PREHISTORIC EXPERIENCES: ACTIVITIES AT THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

The Archaeological Park of Sant Llorenç de Montgai is an educational and leisure facility designed to show what prehistoric life may have been like and introduce the methods of research used by archaeology. Its ultimate aim is to promote awareness of prehistoric heritage in the context of the landscape.

The park consists of replicas of a Palaeolithic open-air camp and a Neolithic settlement, as well as areas that simulate different aspects of an archaeological dig. These elements provide an insight into prehistoric technologies and activities and an understanding of current research techniques used to learn about the past from objects.

The Archaeological Park is open to visitors to the site of the Roca dels Bous, but it is also possible to carry out activities to discover what life was like in prehistoric times.*

Option A: PALAEOLITHIC CHALLENGES

In the replicated Palaeolithic area, the Archaeological Park provides the opportunity to live in first person the daily life of this first period of history. Two related experimental activities are organized: in the first one, participants will become familiar with flint knapping, one of the eldest human technologies; in the second one, they can prove their ability in a simulated hunting activity.

Option B: THE FIRST FARMERS AND HERDERS

6,000 yearsago, the first groups of farmers and herders appeared in the Noguera region. In the Neolithic area of the Archaeological Park visitors can experiment with some of their techniques, such as grinding grain with stone tools, or approach their symbolic world making ornaments and necklaces.

*The activitiesare only conducted with groups (at least 5 people) and must be arranged in advance.
